View
Alaskan wildlife & wilderness while you capture Dungeness crab!
This
tour begins with a beautiful drive along the coast in which you will pass an active
cannery, Coast Guard station, Totem Pole Park, old sawmill, and numerous beautiful
waterfalls.
Upon
arrival to the George Inlet Lodge, a cannery house, built out over the fjord on
stilts, you will be outfitted to jump onboard spacious, comfortable catamarans
for transport to our crab fishing grounds.
Throughout
your 7 mile waterway adventure, our catamaran captain will entertain you with
lively fish tales and valuable information about Southeast Alaska. You will see
a 1940's cannery, an abandon gold mine, the scenic Mahoney Glacial Cirque, snow
capped mountains, and 2,000 foot waterfalls... all before your final destination!
A beautiful hidden
inlet is the remote location of the Dungeness Crab Fishery and home to all types
of wildlife. Here, we will demonstrate the pulling of two crab pots. The crabs
recovered will be poured onto a table and sorted for a look at the differences
in male to female, and of course, legal size. While none of the crab will be kept,
each guest will have the opportunity to see them up close and learn about their
anatomy and life cycle.
The
return trip to the lodge takes about fifteen minutes. Once there, you will be
greeted with a cup of hot cider and seated to a linen draped table for a fabulous
crab dinner including white wine and blueberry cheesecake!
